BlueRAID

Sata|HD BlueRAID series brings about a new level of cost performance in high speed external storage. Traditional external storage solutions have been large, expensive, or slow.
The BlueRAID 800 external SATA series brings the low cost and high perfomance of SATA drives outside the computer, but without the exhorbitant cost of backplane and SCSI solutions or the clutter of numerous SATA cables snaking in and out of your system.
Connected internally to your motherboard SATA connections or standard 8 port SATA Raid Controller, BlueRAID can deliver extremely high speeds in RAID 0, read performance and redundancy in RAID 10, or storage and redundancy in RAID 3, 5, and 6 if your sata raid controller supports it. Includes:
  • BlueRAID 800 Case
  • Sata Harness for 8 drives or 2 Infiniband cables
  • Optional Rackmount Kit
  • Optional SATA drives in popular sizes for a total up to 4Tb
  • Optional RAID controller available in PCI-X or PCI-e

BlueRAID Benchmarks

The concept behind the BlueRAID 800 series of External Sata Storage Arrays began and ended with the highest speed for the lowest price, the benchmarks speak for themselves. OS: Windows XP. Test Method: Sandra average result. Drives: 8x400 Seagate 7200.8
2320 - RAID 0 - 350Mb/s
2220 - RAID 0 - 345Mb/s
1820a - RAID 0 - 341Mb/s
H8DCE - RAID 0 - 333Mb/s
2320 - RAID 5 - 267Mb/s
2220 - RAID 5 - 261Mb/s
1820a - RAID 5 - 255Mb/s
H8DCE - RAID 5 - 240Mb/s
1820a - RAID 10 - 202Mb/s

On the Controllers:
With the exception of the H8DCE the controllers used were Highpoint RocketRAID 8 port controller cards. The 2320 being a PCIe x4 card tested in a Supermicro H8DCE and the other 2 being PCI-X tested in the 133Mhz slot of a Supermicro X6DA8. The H8DCE reference is the 8 onboard sata ports, the RAID 5 was done by modifying Disk Manager to provide software based RAID 5 services and used considerably more processor power than the 1820a with its hardware based xor engine.

Sata|HD also offers turnkey BlueRAID solutions, including the right controller for your system and applications, giving you a complete storage solution. For more information see our BlueRAID Turnkey page.
