BlueRAID FAQ

| BlueRAID 800R |
The BlueRAID 800
is an external
storage device capable of holding 8 hard drives. Its method of connectivity
to the computer is either a pair of Infiniband cables or a custom
8 lane sata cable that connects to a single plug on the back of your
computer, which in turn connects to your computers, SATA, SAS or SCSI
controller.
Q: What kind of installation will I need to do?
A: If you purchase the case only you will need to
install the hard drives into the case, the cable bracket into the
computer, and connect the sata cables to your controller. If you purchase
the case with drives, you will need to install the cable bracket into
your computer and connect the sata cables to your controller. If you
purchase a case/controller bundle, you will need to install drives,
the cable bracket, the controller (and software), and connect the
sata cables to your controller. If you purchase a case with drives
and a controller bundle (what we recommend of course), you will need
to install the cable bracket, controller (and software), and connect
the cables to the controller.
Q: What kind of performance can I expect from my BlueRAID?
A: A lot! What is a lot? Well, that depends on your
motherboard, the controller, the RAID setting, the OS, the hard drives
used, and connectivity method. See our SATA benchmark
page for the kind of speeds we've gotten.
Q: How does it connect to the Computer?
A: Well, it's pretty much a secret, but it uses 8
SATA cables that go into a single plug which connects to the inside
of your computer where you have your 8 SATA ports on a controller
or motherboard.
Q: What is it made out of?
A: Aluminum, with a grudging bit of steel, a few
fans, screws, wires, and a power supply.
Q: Where can I buy one?
A: You can buy one in our online
store, or if you like a particular reseller, ask to get it from
them, we're happy to work with resellers.
Q: What kind of power does it take?
A: The BlueRAID has a regular switching power supply
capable of 120/240 power with an IEC on the back. Currectly the unit
comes with an Edison (the plugs used in the US).
Q: How long is the Warranty?
A: All parts and labor for one year, you are simply
responsible for shipping the unit back to us for repairs. The hard
drives are warrantied by the manufacturer for 1, 3, or 5 years depending
on the drives purchased.
